  Where do I start narrating this HORRIBLE experience? Was taken to the prep room 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Got changed into the gown, the nurse came in and put the IV line in my hand. Then, we sat in the room for at least 45 minutes with no updates. I finally had to push the nurse call button to get someone to ask how much longer I would have to wait. They told me 10-15 minutes longer and offered a $10 gift card to Cub Foods. When I was finally escorted to the procedure room the nurse had a difficult time injecting the medication into the IV because it was installed so long ago and I'm sure the blood had clotted it shut. She finally got it cleared out and injected the medication. I was just starting to feel the effects when I heard one of the nurses say the doctor told them "NO SPRAY" meaning they for some reason were NOT going to use the numbing spray in my throat for the EGD procedure. I really don't understand why they chose not to give me the spray, except maybe they wanted to torture me. Even though I was drugged up, I fully remember the entire procedure all the way through. I gagged, coughed and vomited, choking on the scope that was jammed down my throat THE WHOLE TIME throughout the procedure. All they said to me while it was happening was "don't swallow!" My throat is now extremely sore and getting worse over time as the medication wears off. It hurts to eat, drink, swallow, and even talk. I just really, really don't understand why they didn't use the numbing spray. One of the first things the nurse explained about the procedure to me was that they were going to use a numbing spray which would taste bad, but would help with the procedure. I was so exhausted from this nightmare experience that I slept for a long time when I got home, and now it is too late to call and talk to them about it. I'll have to wait until Monday.
